Too
often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening
ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the
potential to turn a life around. -Leo
Buscaglia
How true is the quote above? How many people do
we take for granted? How often do we say hello to one another? What was the
last time we said hi to that watchman we usually pass at the gate, do we even
say thank you to that shopkeeper, barber, motorist or cobbler after they have
attended to us?
At times we overlook the small acts in front of
us and creep our necks to see what is coming, we think what we have is small
and hope for a better big thing to come.
If you cannot take care of that bicycle, there is
no way you will be able to take care of that big vehicle. At times before you
do or use something you must understand how it feels or how it looks like. And
that starts with the little things around us, don’t look at them as little
things.
Every journey has a stepping stone, if you don’t
pass through that stepping stone, you might miss your step.
Everyone needs compassion, if you are not
compassionate you don’t expect the same from others, are you?
I have seen and interacted with people whom I
might say are achievers, ambitious and they are somewhere in the society, the
‘most influential people’, they are also my friends. Getting to know them you
expect them to be rude, impolite and have the ‘I don’t care’ attitude, because
they already have it all. Wrong. These people are humble, and they never fail
to recognize the little deed, trait or respond to what you say. They even
preach the importance of love, kindness, respect, appreciation and friendship
to you. I get challenged.
A smile can warm a cold heart, a simple hug can
comfort a troubled soul, an honest compliment can boost some else’s
self-confidence, showing care to someone make them feel they are worthy. That
someone can also be you and I, as much as we are willing to give, we should be
ready to receive too.
We may be troubled, feel discouraged and sad,
thinking all is lost, no one cares for us and all we want to do is just to be
alone and secluded, maybe it is us who are blocking others into our lives, they
try to get to us but we block them while waiting for that ‘BIG’ thing, maybe if
we let in those small acts in, they may be the stepping stone to the big things
we are aiming for.
In the midst of your chaos, stop and look keenly
around you, what are you blocking or what are you not seeing?
